Winter hair care

Winter is just not about warm clothes, fireside reading, snuggling close to the pillows wrapped from head to toe with a comfy quilt. It is time to battle the cold winds that hampers your body and hair. A little care will keep the wintry troubles at bay.
Before the winter winds can work havoc with your hair, expose your hair to deep conditioning. Since the cold weather causes to dry your hair, massage your hair in aloe Vera juice for a few minutes. This will restore its softness.
You can also treat your hair with oil massage once or twice a week Olive oil can work wonders in reinforcing moisture to your hair. Heat the oil before using and allow it to soak for a time lesser than the time you allot for the summer season. Too long a period of soaking hair in oil can get you ill. If you are used to treating your hair with herbal extracts or herbal oil do not soak it for a long time. Herbal ingredients are mostly cooling agents that are more suitable for the summer. Keep away from washing your hair too frequently. Deep conditioning spa treatments work wonders on your hair in this season. They are more effective and advanced than oil massages and really improve the texture of the hair. Enroll yourself for a hair spa.
Woolen clothing like hats, scarves and turtlenecks can cause damage to your hairline. Since they can cause breakage, first cover your hair with a silk scarf before exposing it to winter wraps.
It is the appropriate time for split ends to work their way up to the hair shafts. Hence, go in for regular trims.
Style your hair with a braid, twist or a knot. Try keeping away from letting your hair open and wild, as the cold winds can play rough on your hair.
The weather is dry and treatments like coloring, streaking, rebonding and smoothening etc. can make the hair drier. But it is also the most festive season of the year…who doesn’t want to have a totally new look before new year! So my suggestion is go ahead and do these treatments..just do them with proper consultation from a trained hair expert and with proper time gaps in between treatments. Also a very good follow up care is of prime importance before doing any such treatments.
Use of right products along with serums and leave-in conditioners would also help to maintain soft, silky hair. Expose your hair to natural drying. Keep away from blow dryers. If you have to use, use one with a hood. Always cover your hair with a silk fabric to guard it from the chill winds.

How to take care of your hair?

First of all it is of prime importance to keep your scalp clean. Shampoo and condition your hair regularly, but avoid using a very heavy conditioner as it will make the hair limp. Use good quality products meant to provide moisture to the hair..these products are usually gel/clear based and provide just the right amount of moisture without making it sticky which is  perfect for monsoons. My best pick would be the SP Wella Hydro Shampoo and Hydro Mask range. For hair which is basically of a soft and fine texture even volume protein products work great, as they give volume without making the hair dry. The SP Wella Volume Shampoo and Biotouch Volume Protein Mask are very effective.  Use a mild conditioner and better still is to use a leave in conditioner with it. Leave-in conditioners or serums help in protecting the hair against frizz and damage to a large extent. Some very popular products in this range are Lumi-Oil from L’oreal and the Hair Ends Elixir from Wella. It is also absolutely mandatory that you wash your hair every time it gets wet in the rain with shampoo and conditioner. If you get wet 2 times a day wash it both times to stay away from scalp infections!

Change of Texture

The grass is always greener on the other side. Most often straight haired women prefer curls and curly haired women prefer straight hair. Some women are sometimes just born with hair which is frizzy and dry. Luckily, there are now very safe and nice options available to help change the natural texture of the hair.
If you like your hair silky and straight you can get it permanently straightened. These days treatments are so advanced the poker straight look has been replaced by a more natural and soft straight look.
On the other hand, for hair which tends to fall too straight and flat perm/soft curls are a great option as well. Perms are hardly, the hard noodle like curls anymore…you have a lot of softer options.
A change in texture is the final and most prominent form of change you can make to alter your looks. Just ensure good after care with these treatments as well. Use of right products is essential. You can also go in for hair spa’s once in 2-4 weeks to maintain the texture and shine in the hair.

I have covered different aspects of changes you can make in terms of your hair. You can try out one, two or even all of them if required. Just make sure you are in the right hands and the guidance and consultation is absolutely thorough.
“The key to change... is to let go of fear.” Let go of your inhibitions and be open to slight experimentation. Just some small change will make such a huge difference and make you feel ‘wow’ about yourself.

Hair Colour

Any hair cut will just come out the best with a little color in it. Color breaks the monotony, adds softness, brings out the style better and lifts your spirits like nothing else would. Here again it is very important to have a detailed consultation with your colorist. It is advisable to not follow trends blindly but go in for something which would suit you, enhance your complexion along with keeping in consideration the texture of your hair, natural color, lifestyle etc.

You have a lot of different options in coloring like going in for a global color with just a hint of color showing up for someone who may not be too adventurous and is trying out color for the first time.

You can do highlights and streaking, in which you have a world of options. You can play with different colors and a lot of different techniques. Work highlights only around your parameter, do flashes only on ends or certain sections of the hair, blend two-three colors for highlights….the options are just too many. This brings out a lot of movement in the hair and also adds that bounce in the hair.

The colors of the season are rich and deep. Chocolate crowns, mahogany, burgundy, deep red, auburn are some of the best shades for global colors. The trend is moving back towards a dark base.

For highlights red, honey brown, copper, gold etc. work very well. Hair coloring this season is all about block colors- bold sections of color that can stand out or not, depending on how you style your hair. The feel is more blended, fresh and rich.

Along with doing color, it is important to maintain the color. It is not a very high maintenance affair, just the use of right shampoos and conditioners. These products tone down brassiness which tends to appear after a while of having done color and add vibrancy. It would also help to use a leave-in conditioner or serum.

Hair Styling

A nice hair cut is definitely the first step to bring about a change. Have a thorough consultation with your stylist before you go in for a cut. What looks good in a magazine or on some model or film star may not necessarily suit you or your hair type. So it is important to style your hair depending on your face shape, your body frame, lifestyle, maintenance factors etc. Also, take part in the consultation with your stylist. Give them an idea of what you like and may not like and give them an insight into what you have in mind.

Layers are definitely in vogue, on hair which is long, shoulder length or even short. Variations in layers can be created depending on the look wanted. They can be choppy and shaggy, they can be disconnected, or just around the parameter to soften the face and frame it. This year asymmetrical bangs are in fashion. Both, blunt cut bangs or softer textured bangs are hot this season. The sloping fringe adds extra oomph to your style and can really highlight your features.

The bob also came in very big this season. The bob looks good on most face shapes. They do need a little bit of styling. To help suit different face shapes you can variate the length from ear level to skimming your shoulder.

A little bit of styling will go a long way in helping you wear the hairstyle. A style can be wash and wear but it would probably take just 2minutes to style it a little and make it look the way it looks when your stylist styles it for you. Some tips for this are-Rub a small amount of wax or pomade between your fingers. With this product on just use your fingers as a comb and comb through the parameters of the hair. It will just texturise the ends of the hair giving them that extra definition. This works great for straight hair.

Define the ends of your ends with some product. Piece out the ends by rubbing a little wax between your fingers and onto the ends of your hair. Twist the ends so they clump together. This is a good technique to give yourself the slightly bohemian curly look and is great for wavy to curly hair.
